Hockey Basics [New to hockey]

Our Hockey Basics and "new to hockey" / learn to play programs are the perfect first step for entry level hockey players. These programs drill down on sound fundamental skills, while creating a super fun, positive, and encouraging environment for kids to find their passion for the game! These programs are offered in the Spring + Summer. During Fall-Winter season this program operates as the Mini Monsters.

Experience Hockey and Goaltending – No Cost, All Fun!

Are you curious about ice hockey or interested in trying out the thrilling position of goaltender? Are you looking for a fun wintertime activity? Well, here is your chance! Please join us for a special “Try Hockey / Goaltending for Free” event designed for newcomers and aspiring goalies. No experience required—just bring your enthusiasm and love for sports!

  • Free on-ice session led by experienced coaches

Who Can Participate?

This event is open to boys and girls ages 4-12. Prior skating or hockey experience is welcomed but not required.

  • North Park Ice Arena, 901 Duffey St, Elyria, OH 44035

(this is a semi-enclosed rink – please dress warm!)

Additional Details

Please bring

  • A loose-fitting pair of sweatpants or snow pants
  • Gloves (does not have to be hockey gloves – snow gloves or mittens will work well)
  • A comfortable fitting helmet (does not have to be a hockey helmet)

** Skates will be available to use if you do not have your own. We will also have a limited amount of other equipment available for you to borrow. If you have any questions at all on player/goalie equipment, please let us know.**

8Under (Mite)

Typically ages 5–7
Focus is on learning to skate, basic puck skills, and having fun. Practices emphasize movement, balance, and simple games. Most play is cross-ice or small-area, with no standings or scores tracked.

10Under(Squirt)

Typically ages 8–9
Players continue to develop strong skating skills while learning passing, shooting, and basic team play. Games are instructional, and the emphasis remains on development, confidence, and sportsmanship.

12Under (Peewee)

Typically ages 10–11
Players gain a better understanding of positions, rules, and game flow. Practices include more structured drills and small-area competition while continuing to prioritize skill development.

14Under (Bantam)

Typically ages 12–13
Athletes refine skills, improve conditioning, and learn more advanced team concepts. Competition increases, but development and respect for the game remain central.
